Why cleaning your carpet & upholstery is so important!

Returning to school, means a lot more exposure, germs, bacteria, coughs, colds, sneezes, to name but a few.

All of this is then transported to your home and transferred to your furnishings where it is left to breed and multiply. It is because of this that keeping your Carpets, rugs, upholstery, (fabric, leather or Suede) regularly cleaned is so important.

When your furnishings are clean, your home or workplace feels/becomes more inviting. You feel more relaxed and happier, in your clean environment. This is because clean environments lead to less allergens, germs & bacteria.

If you stop and think about the amount of time you spend in your home, playing on the carpet with your children, snuggling up on your sofa with your loved ones, maybe sitting on the sofa with your dinner or snacks, watching TV, just relaxing listening to music or reading a book and eating your favourite bar of chocolate… Spillages are unintentional but occur.

Imagine you have just come in from a long walk, with your much loved dog. It is your dogs natural instinct, to bound into the house, transferring, mud, wet paw prints throughout your home, bringing the outside to inside.

All these germs, bacteria dirt and spills which we have unknowingly invited into our homes have become an hotspot around the areas we like to relax the most, our place of gatherings, our area where we invite our friends and loved ones. Who wants to sit in this germ filled environment?

Taking the above out of the equation for a moment!

Our sofa’s, carpets, rugs etc. are an expensive commodity, surely it makes sense to prolong their life, maintaining their condition, saves you money in the long term.

Your furniture takes a beating every time you walk on it, sit on it, which is why regular cleaning is so important.

Looking after your furnishings

Vacuum your carpets, at least once a week, more if you have lots of traffic. Remove outdoor footwear, before walking onto your carpet, try and clean up any spills straight away. When vacuuming the best way to remove as much dirt as possible is to vacuum in two directions, North to South & East to West. Vacuum both sides of rugs where possible.

whether your sofa is fabric or leather, vacuum it once a week, using the soft brush head and gently using the long nozzle attachment to get into the side of your sofa’s cushions.

Finally, when needed or at least once yearly, call in a professional, fully trained, insured cleaner. Don’t allow the stains and dirt set into your furniture, acting quickly gives your professional cleaner the best chance to fully remove.

Choosing the right professional cleaner, is important, ensure that they are fully trained, check up on reviews, recommendations can help, don’t be fooled by gimmick’s someone saying they can clean your sofa or a carpet for say £25:00  – shouts out “I am not going to do a thorough job”

Think about it, say it takes me 15 minutes to get you your home, then that’s also 15 minutes return. It takes me at least 30 minutes to set up and a further 30 minutes to tidy my equipment away. So straight away 1 1/2 hours have gone by without any work being carried out. An averaged sized carpet to clean properly takes approximately 2 hours including drying (after setting up) so that’s a minimum of 3.5 hrs.

A 3 seater sofa takes me approximately 3 hrs to clean and dry.

Don’t be fooled, choose wisely.
